Description
One of the best kept secrets of the experimental music scene in Denmark is undoubtedly the music of Danish born Robin Taylor. 'As for Robin Taylor and his creation as a whole, in my honest opinion, he is undoubtedly one of the most inspired, inventive, and innovative composers of the Progressive Rock movement. If you consider yourself a real connoisseur of progressive music, not to mention ProGfessor, you shouldn't miss the opportunity to enrich your collection with such wonderful albums as those by Taylor's Universe, Robin Taylor and Taylor's Free Universe.' -- Vitaly Menshikov, ProgressoR Taylor's Free Universe were formed in 2000 by Robin Taylor and Karsten Vogel as a live performing act as well as a studio recording band. TFU have played at the Copenhagen Jazz Festival 2003 a.o. TFU's debut CD 'File Under Extreme' was voted 5th best Danish jazz release in 2002 (of 136) by the staff at the Danish magazine 'Jazz Special'. TFU's regular line-up comprise Robin Taylor: guitar & electronics etc., Karsten Vogel: saxophones, Pierre Tassone: violin & electronics, Johan Segerberg: basses & electronics and Kalle Mathiesen: drums & sampler. TFU have performed (and recorded) with special guest Peter Friis Nielsen (b) (On-Plugged in Elsinore). TFU are influenced by sixties avant-garde jazz shaped in modern sound aestethics, ranging from Ornette Coleman to Fred Frith and David Torn. 'File Under Extreme is a pretty remarkable recording. Not since my first encounters with the music of Roger Trigaux' Present, Univers Zero and Art Zoyd have I heard such a distinctive and seamless blend of jazz, metallic progressive rock, free improv, and late 20th Century European classical music. This is definitely a band to watch.' -- Jazzweekly 'In fact, the continous development of anything that is featured on this remarkable album is the main and the most exciting characteristic of it. Nevertheless, I can highly recommend this album only to those lovers of progressive music who are both very mature and adventurous.' (Six stars) -- ProgressoR 'Well, this is an interesting piece of work.' -- Axiom of Choice 'There are many CD's floating around these days from bands that pretend to know how to play 'free-jazz' mixed with prog rock. Taylor's Free Universe are no pretenders. This is the real deal folks - check it out.' -- Sea of Tranquility.
